Case Study
De-escalating Rage
and Fear
By Ruth Mills,
TFT Dx
John, a fifty-three year old male, had been diagnosed OCD
and low functioning borderline personality.
For four years I worked closely with his psychiatrist addressing his prescription drug
use, recovery issues, isolation, and depression.
For the past 33 years, he has had suicidal ideation with several attempts. He has been
unable to maintain friendships or intimate relationships.
Due to the low functioning borderline personality disorder, most of our sessions
focused on de-escalating his rage and fears.
During one session, John was unable to de-escalate the anger so I suggested TFT. The
treatment eliminated the rage immediately.
During the next two months, I used TFT when indicated for various problems. I soon
started noticing several positive changes; he started caring about his looks as well as
becoming more sociable. Our sessions moved into problem-solving skills.
John fixed up his house, went back to school and started a new career.
The TFT treatment has held for the last two years.
He is currently in a loving relationship, has supportive friends and is involved in many
social activities. His depression, anger, overwhelming feelings, and suicidal ideation are
no longer issues for him.
This case is another example of successful treatment using
